Werring Contemporary and 1040 Creative are proud to present Hold the Line, a compelling group exhibition featuring works by Chuck Styles, Serena Saunders, Alloyius McIlwaine, and 1040 Creative founder and director Pauline Houston-McCall.
Conceived in response to ongoing efforts to revise, obscure, or erase collective histories, Hold the Line examines the importance of preserving culture, lineage, and lived experience. At a time when historical narratives are increasingly contested and monuments are removed or recontextualized, the exhibition serves as a call to safeguard the stories, traditions, and voices that shape our understanding of the past and inform our future.
Through painting, sculpture, and mixed media, the participating artists explore themes of identity, resilience, remembrance, and cultural continuity. Together, their works affirm the enduring power of art as a vehicle for truth-telling, resistance, and connection.
