Jason Koons is a paper cutter, illustrator and art educator living and working in Phoenixville,
Pennsylvania. A trained commercial artist with roots in printmaking, his papercut work is a
process driven mix of personal inspiration points and client directed subject matter. When
approaching a new artwork, Jason is primarily trying to create the most challenging and
satisfying physical cutting experience; sometimes his cuts are driven by line work and
drawing, but many times his cuts are intuitive and unplanned. As a result of this process,
he is drawn to explore visually dense, textured, tangled, and complex forms in nature and
geometry.
In addition to producing commercial and commission art and design work, Jason has been
teaching studio art techniques for 18 years; he is currently the Fine and Practical Arts
Chairperson at Radnor High School in Wayne, Pennsylvania - where he instructs students
in traditional studio arts, ceramics, drawing and painting. He is a member of the Guild of
American Papercutters, where he also served on the board as Treasurer. He earned his
B.F.A. in Visual Communications from the University of Delaware, and his M.A. in Art
Education from Kutztown University.
