Steven Schaefer grew up in Havertown, PA where, as a child, he enjoyed exploring his lush, natural surroundings. A glassblowing class taken in 2013 awakened an excitement for the craft and the artist (who previously had been studying music) committed himself to learning blown glass techniques. Once he developed a foundation, Steven began experimenting with color and how to exploit the alchemy of their composition to produce a unique voice amongst thousands of years of tradition. His travels throughout the US and Europe have increased his knowledge base and has provided further artistic inspiration.

In 2019, Steven began making solid glass sculptures exclusively. Moving away from practical shapes, he found himself entering a realm of abstraction and distortion. It was then that he developed a unique style of layering and weaving colored grains of glass the size of rock salt. It is through this in-depth process that the ethereal qualities of light and color moving through a space beyond the confines of two dimensions is achieved.
